Class 2 at Wood Street Primary are investigating how plants develop from seeds.

They sprinkle cress seeds over plastic cups filled with compost, then they water the seeds. Bill and Martha are members of class 2. They measure the length of their cress plants every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for four school weeks. They also write down any important observations.

Bill and Martha record their results in a table. They started their investigation on Monday of Week 1.

Week Day Length of Shoot (cm) Observations
1 Wednesday 0 Seed starts to swell
1 Friday 0 Seeds crack
2 Monday 0.3 Shoots start to grow

Example Question

Using the table, what day did the leaves start to develop?

Answer

We need to look in the table for where it says that the leaves are developing. Once we have found this we need to use our fingers to follow along to find the day that is on the same line. As you follow along it says, Friday and week 2. This means the answer will be:

The leaves started to develop on the Friday in week 2.

You will need to use this table to answer the next questions. Remember, you can always use HELP to see the table again.
