Greetings word detective!

Which word from the set of brackets would best finish this sentence??

Book is to read as television is to (send, watch, finish).

First, we have to work out how the word book is connected to the word read. We read a book, so we need to find a word which is something that we do with a television.

The correct answer is watch as it is something we do with a television.

Now, let’s make it more challenging.?

We must pick one word from each set of brackets that can be connected to the word in front of it in the same way.

Let’s look at this question:

Fast is to (evil, slow, climb) as bad is to (good, weak, awful).

First, we need to find a connection between fast and one of the words in brackets. We can connect fast to slow as they have opposite meanings. These are called antonyms.

This means we need to find an antonym for bad, which is good.

The correct answers are slow and good as they are both antonyms of the words that come before them.

Fast is to (evil, slow, climb) as bad is to (good, weak, awful).

Let’s try another:

Tennis is to (play, racquet, paper) as cricket is to (bat, stick, running).

First, we need to find a connection between tennis and one of the words in brackets.

Play is connected to tennis as we play tennis. Also, racquet is connected to tennis as we hit the ball with a racquet.

We need to see if one of these connections can be made with cricket and the words in brackets that are linked to it.

In cricket, the ball is hit with a bat.

We have found the connection! It’s the equipment used to hit the ball in these sports.

Tennis is to (play, racquet, paper) as cricket is to (bat, stick, running).
