2D (two dimensional) shapes are flat and can only be drawn on paper.

3D (three dimensional) shapes are solid and can be picked up.  

You should know the names of the 2D and 3D shapes shown at the bottom of the page.

For the 2D shapes you should know how many sides they have. A side is a line that joins up two corners of the shape. For example, a triangle always has three sides.

For the 3D solid shapes, you should know how many faces they have. A face is a flat or curved surface in a 3D shape. For example, a cube always has six faces - it has six flat surfaces.
