Hey you, look at this!

We like dogs.

Do you like dogs?

two chihuahua dogs at a cafe table

Sentences take all different forms. The first sentence here was a command. Did you notice it was telling you to do something? It used the word 'look' which is a verb, or action/doing word.

The second sentence was a statement telling you that we like dogs.

The third sentence was a question to try and find out if you like dogs! So...do you?!

There are four different sentence types. In this activity, we will be looking at statements and questions.

These sentences are statements.

Dad is going shopping.  Dogs are good swimmers

But if we change them slightly these sentences need an answer, so they are now questions.

Is Dad going shopping?  Are dogs good swimmers?

Did you notice that the questions have question marks at the end of them?

Statements will usually have a full stop, but sometimes, if the person saying them is excited or surprised, they might have an exclamation mark, like this !

Look closely at the sentences in this activity to see if you can spot the questions and the statements.
