In this activity, we will be finding the combinations that add to a given total.

 

When adding more than two numbers together, it's a good idea to look for any number bonds that you already know.

For example, if you have to add 6 + 2 + 4 together, you can see that there's a number pair that adds to 10 there (6 + 4), so start with that.

6 + 4 = 10. Then, simply add the 2 on: 10 + 2 = 12

 

Another tip is to start with the biggest number first and then add the smaller numbers to it.

For example, if you have to add 3 + 5 + 9 together, start with 9 and add 3 to it. 9 + 3 = 12. Then add on the 5: 12 + 5 = 17

 

We're going to be adding three numbers in these questions.
