All sentences need a verb.

It was Damian's birthday yesterday. His mum made him a lovely birthday cake. Damian blew out the candles and then gave a slice of cake to all his friends.

Some verbs are action words and they tell us what is (or was) happening.

Kim jumped over the fence.

The bus drove along the High Street.

Salim is playing his guitar.

Some verbs tell us about the state of something, such as where it is or how old it is.

My dad is in Scotland.

My puppies are three weeks old.

Some verbs tell us how people feel about things.

Adil loves basketball.

Dwayne hates spiders.
