We use materials to make things. Look around your room - every object, every thing you can see is made out of a material.

Look at this saucepan. Can you tell what material is it made from? 

Think about what you use a saucepan for.

Would you use wood, metal or paper to make it?

We use metal to make saucepans because it is a solid and waterproof material.

If we made our saucepans out of wood, they would burn when we placed them on the stove.

If we used paper, the paper would be soaked and bend too easily because paper is not waterproof.
