Hi, letter detective. Are we pleased to see you!

You’ve guessed it. We have another puzzle we need your help to solve.  Are you ready?

Here are the first three letters of a word:

sou __

What could the last letter be?

We could use p for soup, or r for sour.

Can you think of any other options?

Here are the last three letters of a word:

__ ins

What could the first letter be?

We could use w for wins, or p for pins.

Can you think of any other options?

Time for a challenge! If we put both words with a missing letter together, it would look like this:

sou (__) ins

Now, the missing letter needs to be the same for both words. We need the same letter to finish sou__ as we need to start __ins.

We could use the letter p, making sou (p) ins.

This would make the separate words soup and pins.

Let’s try another question:

Which letter could finish the first word and begin the second word?

lon (__) oat

m          g          t

The correct answer is g, as it will make the two words long and goat.

Now it’s your turn to find the missing letters in the questions on the next pages. Enjoy the hunt!
