Worksheet Overview

This activity is about ordering and comparing numbers to one million.

When ordering or comparing numbers, we need to recall our place value knowledge to help us decide which is the smallest/largest.

When the numbers have the same number of digits, we start from the column with the highest value - the column furthest to the left.

Example

Which is larger: 987,633 or 987,765?

Answer

We can see that both are 6-digit numbers that have 987 thousands.

Therefore, we look at the next column to the right - the hundreds column.

The first number has a 6 in the hundreds column and the second number has a 7.

So, 987,765 is larger than 987,633.

Are you happy with that?
