A prefix is a letter or letters added to the beginning of a word to make a new word.

 

When the prefix over- is added to verbs, it generally has the meaning of 'too much' or 'too many'.

 

For example:

Jack overcooked the cake and it came out of the oven all black.

 

burnt cake

 

In this activity, we will practise forming verbs with the prefix over- and understand the meaning of words with the prefix.
