In this activity, we will be learning to use a calendar to answer questions about dates. 

A calendar shows the days and dates of each month of the year.  

This changes every year.

Here is an example showing the days and dates in December 2012.

The weekdays are shown in black and the weekends in red.

Let's take a look at these example questions using the calendar. 

Example 1:

What day is the first day of December?

Answer:

The first of December is shown by the number 1 on the calendar. We can see that the number 1 appears on the row of Saturdays. 

So, the first day of the month is Saturday 1st December.

Example 2:

What day of the week is the 12th of December?

Answer:

The number 12 is in the row labelled Wednesday for December. 

So, the 12th of December falls on a Wednesday.
