Letter detective, we need your help!  In this activity, we will be using the alphabet to help us crack a letter code!

 

 

Here is the alphabet for you to use as a reference:

Now look at the following letter sequence:

 

AD is to DG as GJ is to ___.

?First, we have to work out how the first letter of the first pair A(AD) gets to the first letter of the second pair to the letter D(DG).

To get from A to D, we jump 3 places to the right.

Then we have to work out how the second letter of the first pair gets to the second letter of the second pair.

To get from D to G, we also jump 3 places to the right.

This means we need to do the same to the letters G and J to work out the missing letters in our sequence.

This means our missing pair of letters is JM.

 

So the answer is:

AD is to DG as GJ is to JM.

 

 

Let’s try another:

DF is to HJ as PR is to ___.

 

First, we have to work out how the first letter of the first pair (DF) gets to the first letter of the second pair (HJ).

To get from D to H, we jump 4 places to the right.

Then we have to work out how the second letter of the first pair gets to the second letter of the second pair.

To get from F to J, we also jump 4 places to the right.

This means we need to do the same to the letters P and R to work out the missing letters in our sequence.

This makes our missing letters TV.
