In this activity, we will learn to identify multiples of a given number.

Multiples are numbers that we get when a number is multiplied.

Knowing the times table facts for numbers up to 12 will make this skill easier.

Here is the 3 times table. The multiples of 3 are shown in green. 

Some multiples of a number are larger than the ones we use in our times tables.
So, 39 would also be a multiple of 3.

Let's try an example question on multiples. 

Example 1

Write a number from the list that is a multiple of 10.

38, 20, 25, 38, 21, 38, 12, 34, 12, 1

Answer

If we think carefully about all the multiples of ten, we know that they all end in a zero. 

For example: 10, 20, 30, 40 ...

20 is the only multiple of 10 in our list because it is the only one that ends in a zero. 

It is also in the ten times table!

2 × 10 = 20
