Homonyms are words that are spelt the same but have different meanings.

for example:

CRANE	CRANE

There are many other words like this, but we don't usually get confused between them because we can tell which one is which from the context of the sentence (the meaning of the rest of the sentence).

The crane flew down to its nest.

This sentence must be referring to the bird and not the lifting equipment!

Some homonyms are spelt the same but pronounced differently.

BOW	BOW
