It is easy to count large numbers. You can group them into tens.
Look at these butterflies.

There are five groups of ten + two single butterflies.
10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 50
50 + 2 = 52
That was much quicker than counting them all one at a time, wasn't it?
