In this activity, we will be learning how to round a number to the nearest ten.
Remember that when numbers end in 1, 2, 3 or 4, round down to the nearest ten! When numbers end in 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9, round up to the nearest ten!
Example 1
Round this number to the nearest ten.
741
Answer
741 is between 740 and 750.
Look at the 1 in the ones place. It's less than 5, so round down to 740.
Example 2
819
819 is between 810 and 820.
There is a 9 in the ones place, so we round up to 820.
Does that make sense?
