Look at this table which shows the place value of numbers from thousands to thousandths.
Notice the decimal point which is always found between the ones and tenths columns.
It is important to know the value of each column and understand how each number is written.
For most of the maths work you will be doing this year, you won't need to go beyond the thousandths column, but it is important to know what happens next, so we will be testing you on decimal numbers down to millionths in this activity!
The order going right from the decimal point is:
tenths
hundredths
thousandths
ten thousandths
hundred thousandths
millionths
