This activity is about taking ten away from a given number.
Example
If I have 43 sweets and then eat 10 of them, how many sweets are left?
Write the number that is 10 fewer than 43.
Answer
Count back 10 on the number line.
43 - 10 = 33
Can you see that when you count back 10 from a number, only the tens digit changes, the ones digit remains the same.
So, 72 - 10 = 62 only the tens digit changed, from 7 to 6
59 - 10 = 49 only the tens digit changed, from 5 to 4.
