When we place numbers in order from the smallest to the largest, we pretend that we are counting up from the smallest to the largest.
Example
Place these numbers in order from the smallest to the largest.
26 5 74 34 47
Answer
If we were counting up from 1 to 100, which of these numbers would we say first?
We would say 5 first, so this is the smallest.
Which would we say next?
We would say 26 next.
Then 34.
Then 47.
The last one we would say is 74.
This is the largest.
The order is
5, 26, 34, 47, 74
Does that make sense?
