In this activity, we will be arranging numbers in decreasing/descending order.
Descending order means going down from largest to smallest - just as if you were descending (going down) the stairs!
Example
Put the numbers in order, largest to smallest.
Answer
4447, 3987, 3252, 1194
Firstly, 4447 is the biggest because it has the largest thousands digit.
Next we compare 3252 and 3987. They both have a 3 in the thousands place, so we look at the hundreds place and see that 3987 is larger than 3252.
1194 is the smallest because 1194 has the smallest thousands digit.
