In this activity, we will be learning about parallel, intersecting and perpendicular lines.
Lines are parallel if they never meet, however far they are extended. They are the same distance apart all the way along.
Lines are intersecting if they meet or cross over.
Lines that cross at 90° or at right angles are called perpendicular.
Let's look at an example question.
Example
Ben draws this pair of lines:
Are they parallel, perpendicular or intersecting? Answer
Ben's lines cross over at right angles, so they are perpendicular but they are also intersecting.
Now you've been introduced to the vocabulary, you are ready to try some questions about parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting lines.
