In this activity, we will be finding the areas of rectangles in cm².
Example
Find the area of the rectangle below with a length of 12 cm and width of 11 cm.
The area of a rectangle = the length x the width
Answer
We multiply together the length by the width.
12 cm × 11 cm = 132 cm²
Don't forget to put the units of measurement!
When calculating area, the answer will be in squared units, for example cm2.
