In this activity, we will learn how to share sums of money between a certain number of people.
To share out an amount of money, we will need to divide.
If I have £35 and I need to share it between 7 people, I have to divide by 7.
35 ÷ 7 = 5
So, each person would get £5.
We can check our answer by using multiplication to do the inverse calculation.
7 people with £5 should make £35.
7 × 5 = 35
Now let's try an example question.
Example
Share £28 amongst 4 people.
How much does each person get?
Answer
To share £28 between 4 people, we must divide by 4.
28 ÷ 4 = 7
So, each of the 4 people gets £7
