Introduction

Many people find decimals tricky, and many others feel nervous around division.

Put the two together and what do we get?

Let's have a go at sorting out some of these worries in this activity.

We are going to look at decimals with two decimal places.  This means that there are two digits after the decimal point, for example, 27.64, 415.92 or 347.51

To divide a number with two decimal places by a single-digit number, we need to set out a division calculation using the bus-stop method and then divide normally.

The decimal points will remain in line vertically.

Example

Work out  36.25 ÷ 5

Answer

36.25 ÷ 5 = 7.25

How do you feel about that?
