A balanced diet means eating a variety of foods from different food groups.
We need to eat:
- sugars to give us instant energy
- starchy foods, like bread and cereal, for slowly released energy
- protein foods for growth
- fruit and vegetables to keep us healthy
The biggest part of our diet should be made up of fruit and vegetables.
Protein foods include meat, fish and eggs and beans.
Foods rich in fats and sugars should not be eaten too often because they contain lots of calories which our bodies store as fat.
