Have you already done some synonym practice, word detective?

Synonyms are words that mean the same or have a very similar meaning to other words.  Does that sound familiar?

They are words like small and tiny, or smile and grin.

We have an extra step in our challenge today, as not only will you be spotting synonyms, you will also be looking out for rhyming words.

Let's try one together so you get the idea:

 

Here are two clues to a word:

The word is similar in meaning to boat.

The word rhymes with cherry.

 

A boat           A cake with a cherry on it

 

Which word could it be?

Raft   Merry   Ferry   Canoe

The answer is ferry because a ferry is a type of boat and it rhymes with cherry.

Here are two clues to a word:

The word is similar in meaning to smell.

The word rhymes with bent.

 

Which word could it be?

Sniff   Scent   Dent   Stink

Can you spot the correct word?

There it is! The answer is scent because it is another word for a smell and it rhymes with bent.
