Worksheet Overview

Word detective, are we pleased to see you! We have some words that have been jumbled up and we need your help to put the letters back into the correct order to find the original word!

Let's take a look.

What do you notice about the nonsense word almef and the letters in the word flame?

If we rearrange the letters in almef, we can spell the word flame. When the letters in a word are jumbled up like this, we call it an anagram.

Let's try one together.

Which of the words below can be made from the letters krind?

Snack     Drank     Drink     Kinder

The answer is drink because the anagram krind has the same number of letters as the word drink, and when we arrange all of the letters that we are given, without any extra ones included, we can spell drink.

Let's see how we get on with this one.

Which of these statements is true?

Tusooh is an anagram of shout.

Otusu is an anagram of shout.

Othsu is an anagram of shout.

Thuts is an anagram of shout.

The correct answer is that othsu is an anagram of shout because it uses all of the same letters as the correct spelling of our word, without adding in any extra ones or leaving any out.

It's nearly time to get started now, word detective.

Before you do, our top tip for this type of questions is to have a notepad and pen to hand.

Pssst!!

If you can't see the correct word straight away, try writing the letters in the anagram in a different order to help you to spot the order the letters should be in.

You could tick off the letters as you use them to make sure you've included them all once and not left any out.

Good luck and let's begin!
