### QUESTION 1 of 10

Hi, letter detective. Are we pleased to see you!

You’ve guessed it. We have another puzzle we need your help to solve.  Are you ready?

Here are the first three letters of a word:

sou __

What could the last letter be?

We could use p for soup, or r for sour.

Can you think of any other options?

Here are the last three letters of a word:

__ ins

What could the first letter be?

We could use w for wins, or p for pins.

Can you think of any other options?

Time for a challenge! If we put both words with a missing letter together, it would look like this:

sou (__) ins

Now, the missing letter needs to be the same for both words. We need the same letter to finish sou__ as we need to start __ins.

We could use the letter p, making sou (p) ins.

This would make the separate words soup and pins.

Let’s try another question:

Which letter could finish the first word and begin the second word?

lon (__) oat

m          g          t

The correct answer is g as it will make the two words long and goat.

Now it’s your turn to find the missing letters in the questions on the next pages. Enjoy the hunt!

Wow! There were three possible answers here! How many did you spot? The letter p at the end makes trap. The letter m at the end makes tram. Have you ever been on a tram? The letter y at the end makes tray. Make sure to select all of the possible options.
• Question 2

Which letters could begin the word below? Tick all the possible options.

There were two options here. F at the start makes the word flab. Flab is another word for fat/saggy skin. S at the start makes slab - like a paving slab.
• Question 3

Which letter could begin all of the words below?

_ight

_ime

_emon

_eave

L

Did you spot the missing letter l? You might have thought 't' at first as this works for the first two words, but you need to make sure the letter works for ALL of the words. L makes light, lime, lemon and leave.

Did you spot the missing letter y? The other three options can complete the second word, but they don't work for the first word. Y makes the words lucky and year.
• Question 7

Which of the letters below completes the first word and begins the second word?

Her (_) eal
