### QUESTION 1 of 10

Hi, letter detective. Are we pleased to see you!

You’ve guessed it. We have another set of puzzles we need your help to solve.  Are you ready?

Here are the first three letters of a word and the last three letters of another word:

cla__

__ark

We need to find the same letter to finish cla__ and start __ark.

We could use the letter p. This would make clap and park.

It could be shown like this:

cla (p) ark

Let’s try another question:

Which letter could finish the first word and begin the second word?

par (__) eam

m           g          t

The correct answer is t, as it will make part and team.

Now let’s make it more challenging! We need to find the same missing letter for four words, not just two!

cro (__) int

tra (__) our

Just as before, we need to find an option that fits the first pair. Then we need to check that the same option works in the second set.

The missing letter is p, giving us:

cro (p) int

tra (p) our

The four complete words are crop, pint, trap and pour.

Now it’s your turn to find the missing letters in the questions on the next pages. Enjoy the hunt!

The missing letter is s. This makes the words miss, slum, pass and send. Try out all of the possible options until one of them works for ALL of the words.
• Question 2

Which letter completes the first word and begins the second word in both sets of words? The same letter must work for all four words.

sh (_) ear

cla (_) awn

The missing letter was y! Why was it y? Not many three-letter words begin with 'sh' so this was a good place to start. The letter y gives us the words shy, year, clay and yawn.
• Question 3

Which letter completes both pairs of words?

mai (_) oble

heave (_) ext

foo (_) amp

fil (_) ost

l
EDDIE SAYS
The missing letter was l. This makes the words fool, lamp, fill and lost. The other letters work with some of the words, but the correct answer must work with ALL of the words.
• Question 6

Which letter completes all four words below?

gri (_) ost

chu (_) ats

m
EDDIE SAYS
The missing letter was m. It makes the words grim, most, chum and mats. If something looks grim it looks gloomy and not very nice. Chum is another word for a friend.
• Question 7

Which letter completes all four words below?

eg (_) uess

lo (_) ross

g
EDDIE SAYS
The missing letter was g. This makes the words egg, guess, log and gross. Some people do think the words egg and gross go together. What do you think?
• Question 8

Which letter completes all four words below?

pi (_) anda

chi (_) ool

p
EDDIE SAYS
The missing letter was p. This makes the words pip, panda, chip and pool. Pandas are my favourite animal!
• Question 9

Which letter completes the four words below? This time you don't have a choice of letters, so you  have to think of the letter yourself!

activ (_) ager

fortun (_) ating

e

The missing letter was e! This makes the words active, eager, fortune and eating. Eager means really keen. Are you eager for the next question?
• Question 10

Which letter completes all four words below? Type the letter in below.

her (_) each

clu (_) ench

b
EDDIE SAYS
The missing letter was b. It makes the words herb, beach, club and bench. If you're really stuck, just work your way through the alphabet, trying each letter in the missing spaces. It wouldn't take you long to get to b!
