Hello, letter detective, it's time for a letter puzzle. Can you help us to solve the challenge below?

 

We are going to look at the alphabet in a different way than you usually would.

 

In this activity, you will be working out sequences that use letters of the alphabet. Some will be in alphabetical order, whilst others will be in reverse alphabetical order.

 

 

Here is the alphabet for you to use as a reference:
A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z
Z Y X W V U T S R Q P O N M L K J I H G F E D C B A 


Take a look at the following alphabetic sequence:
AC, DG, HL, _

 

 

What are the next two letters in the sequence? 

 

 

First, put your fingers on the letters A and C on the alphabet line above.
Then move them to D and G.
Then move them to H and L.


What do you notice?


The pattern is that the gap between each pair of letters widens by one each time like this: A_C, D_ _G, H_ _ _L etc.
If we apply this pattern then we get MR.
So the sequence would be: AC, DG, HL, MR, etc…
