When we want to write something, such as a short story or diary entry, it is important to sequence sentences in the right order so that it makes sense.
These events are sequenced in the correct order for washing your hands:
Put some soap on your hands Wash with water Dry with a towel
All stories have their events sequenced. If you think about the order of events in the fairytale 'Red Riding Hood', she had to make the cakes first before taking them to her Grandma. So in a sequence in the story, the cake-making comes before going to visit Grandma.
We can sequence short simple sentences with a joining word in the middle. We can use the joining words and, so, but or because.
Here, the joining word because is used. It makes this sentence into a longer sentence with more detail.
Jane is off school today because she is sick.
The sequence is correct as the first event led to the second.
In this activity, you can practise putting words and sentences into the correct sequence so that they make sense.
