These letters are called vowels.

If you put two together to make a sound, it is called a digraph.
Listen to the sounds.
When you put another letter in the middle of the digraph, it splits the letters up in a word.
The digraph still makes the same sound, but it is called a split digraph:
|ee becomes e_e in even|
|ie becomes i_e in white|
|ue becomes u_e in June|
|oe becomes o_e in alone|
|ae becomes a_e in came|
