Use the Suffixes -ture and -sure

In this activity, we’re going to be looking at suffixes.

 

Suffixes are groups of letters added onto the ends of words.

 

The Suffix -sure

Look at the word below:

 

measure

 

The suffix -sure is pronounced zh-ure.

 

If you can hear the zh-ure sound in a word you need to write, you spell the suffix -sure.

 

Other words with this suffix include:

treasure

pleasure

enclosure

 

 

The Suffix -ture

Look at the word below:

 

creature

 

The suffix -ture is pronounced ch-ure.

 

Can you think of any other words ending in -ture with a ch-ure sound?

 

We can have:

vulture

sculpture

adventure

departure

 

 

If you are trying to spell a word and hear the ch-ure sound, write the suffix -ture.
