Worksheet Overview

In this activity, we will work out what comes next in a pattern of colours.

Let's have a look at a few examples.

Example 1

What colour comes next in this pattern?

 pattern

Let's have a look at this pattern - it is going:

blue, yellow, blue, yellow, blue, yellow

So, the colours are alternating. If the last colour is yellow then that means that the next colour will be the other colour we have here, which is blue:

yellow blue pattern

So our answer is blue.

Example 2

What colour comes next in this pattern?

 pattern

Let's have a look at this pattern -  it is going:

red, red, green, green, red, red, green

It is doing two reds followed by two greens. The pattern has finished on the green, so it needs to be another green next:

 red and green pattern

So our answer is green.
