 As you probably know, plants grow from seeds.  In fact, you may have grown some plants from seeds yourself, like cress seeds.

 

There is a special name for when a young plant starts to grow out of a seed - we call it germination and we say that the seed is germinating.

Here are some beans germinating and some bean seedlings growing.

 

Do you know what seeds need if they are to grow well? 

 

They all need three things:

water

warmth

air

 

After they have started to grow, they will also need light if we want to produce strong, healthy plants.
