Worksheet Overview

Do you like doing experiments in science?

girl doing an experiment

Let's think about a simple experiment we could do, even at home.

If we added 10 g of salt to a cup of 200 g of warm water, what mass of salty water would you be left with?

salt

10 g + 200 g = 210 g

So the mass of the substances before is the same as the substances after! This is called the Law of Conservation of Mass.

Remember, those tiny particles that make up stuff or the matter in an object ...... atoms, that's it ......... well, they cannot be destroyed. No matter how hard you try!

atom

When a chemical reaction takes place, atoms in a starting substance can rearrange themselves and join back together to form a new substance. But, the number of atoms will still be the same before and after the reaction. It's almost like the atoms are just constantly being recycled!

Shall we try some questions about conservation of mass together now?
