Worksheet Overview

Hi shape sorter.

Can you help us to find the relationship between the following shapes?
We are having difficulties spotting them.

Look at these two shapes:

Which of the shapes below would best fit in a group with these two shapes?

a)         b)         c)         d)         e)

First, we have to work out what the first two shapes have in common.

They are both 3-sided shapes called triangles.

This means we need to look for another triangle.

Shape c is a triangle so this is the correct answer.

Let’s try another question:

Look at these two shapes.

Which of the shapes below would best fit in a group with these two shapes?

a)        b)         c)         d)         e)

First, we need to work out what the first two shapes have in common.

They are both circles with a line going from the middle to the outside.

So we need to look for another circle with a line going from the middle to the outside.

Image e is our correct answer.

(Don’t get caught out by circle b as the line doesn’t go all the way outside, as with the starting shapes.)

It’s now your turn to find the shape that best fits with another pair.

Pssstt!

Here's a handy hint to help you reach superstar status:

Make sure you count the number of sides and look out for patterns.

Good luck matching shapes with their shape families!
