Look at the two shapes below:

Use your magical, shape-moving mind powers to imagine these two shapes combining together.

How many different ways can you think of them combining together? 


Look at the options below:

Which of these options can be made by combining our two shapes together?

We need to focus on one of our original shapes at a time, and see whether it has remained the same type and size in our combined options.


Let’s start with the square.

Which options show exactly the same square?


Options a and b do!

Which options show exactly the same triangle?


Options a and c do.


The only option which shows both the same square and the same triangle is option a.

This makes option a our correct answer.


Let’s look at another two shapes to check we understand the process here:

Which of the options below can be made by combining the two shapes above?

An important fact to know, is that the shapes are allowed to overlap.


Here are our options:

Let’s start by finding the options which have the same circle from our original shapes.

Both options a and b have the correct circle.


Which options have the same-sized rectangle?

Options b and c do!


This makes option b our correct answer, as it uses both the matching circle and rectangle.
