The word 'and' helps us to join words, phrases and short sentences together.
Such as:
fish and chips |
knife and fork |
|
bread and butter |
If we join longer phrases or clauses together, this makes a sentence.
I see a green frog. | I see a black cat. |
We can join sentences together (like the two above) by adding the word 'and' to make a longer sentence!
I see a green frog and a black cat.
It doesn't matter which part is first or second.
We could also say:
I see a black cat and a green frog.
Helpful tip coming up!
When we make a sentence using 'and' we must check that it starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop.
I see a green frog and a black cat.
In this activity, we will practise joining words, short phrases, clauses and sentences together using 'and'.
Just remember:
1) We join words by adding 'and'.
