Worksheet Overview

There are two different types of texts that we can read: fiction and non-fiction.

Fiction texts are those which have been made up and are not true.

Non-fiction texts are factual - they tell us information about things.

Non-fiction texts usually have particular features, including:

A heading/title - This goes at the top of the text, or on the front of the book, so that the reader knows what it will be about.

A subheading/subtitle - This breaks the text into smaller sections and tells you what the next bit is going to be about.

Photos - Many non-fiction texts use photos or diagrams to help the reader understand what is being read.

Captions - There are usually captions under the photos to explain what the photo is of.

Facts - Non-fiction texts are full of facts and information. There is nothing made up or untrue in a non-fiction text!
