To make our writing more interesting and varied, we can use prepositions to add detail.
Prepositions are used to describe where or when something is compared to something else, or the cause of something. Some examples are behind, during, after.
In this activity, we will be using the prepositions during, in, because of.
Let's look at how we can use them in our writing.
Here is a simple sentence:
I love to visit the beach.
We can extend this sentence, giving the reader more information, by adding one of our prepositions.
I love to visit the beach during the summer.
During the summer, I love to visit the beach.
I love to visit the beach in Bournmouth.
I love to visit the beach because of the fresh sea air.
You can see that we can use these preposition phrases at the beginning or the middle of a sentence.
