Identify Rhetorical Devices

Any text has a purpose.  It might want to inform, entertain, persuade, argue...

There are many techniques a writer can use to achieve this purpose. These are called rhetorical devices.

Not all rhetorical devices work for every situation; there are some that are best suited to a specific task. 

One that can be used in many texts is emotive language. 

In this activity, we will identify emotive language, see how it works and begin to explain its effects on the reader.
