Recognise 2D Shapes in Everyday Objects

In this activity, we will be looking for shapes in everyday objects. 

What shapes can we see in our daily lives?

We are going to look for circles and rectangles. 

Let's remind ourselves of these shapes.

Circle

A circle is a shape with one curved side that looks like this: 

Rectangle

A rectangle is a shape with four straight sides. The opposite sides of the shape are the same size. 

Here is a rectangle: 

Where do we see these shapes in everyday life?

Here are some objects that are a circle shape:

Here we have a clock, a coin, and a bicycle wheel. 

Can you see that they all have one curved side? This makes all these objects a circle shape. 

Here are some objects that are a rectangle shape:

Here we have a wooden door, a television, and a calculator. 

Can you see that all these objects have straight sides and the opposite sides are the same length? 

This means that they are all rectangle-shaped.
