In this activity, we will be multiplying and dividing numbers by 3.
To identify the result of a division, we can use a multiplication fact to help.
Let's take the fact 8 × 3 = 24.
We can write this in two different ways:
3 × 8 = 24
8 × 3 = 24
Using this multiplication, we can also write two division facts:
24 ÷ 3 = 8
24 ÷ 8 = 3
Did you notice how the same numbers appear in all four equations?
They are just rearranged!
Let's look at an example.
Example
Find 27 ÷ 3
Answer
We know that 27 is in the 3 times table.
3 × 9 = 27
We can rearrange the digits to make the following division.
27 ÷ 3 = 9
Now you're ready to try some questions. Good luck!
