We can look for probability outcomes in all sorts of situations.
Fractions can be used to represent probability, with the top number (numerator) being the options we are looking for and the bottom number (denominator) being the total number of options.
Example
James has some spare change in his pocket. Find the fraction that represents the probability of him pulling out a 10p coin.
There are two 10p coins, out of a possible thirteen coins.
So the probability is 2/13
Often, the fraction can be simplified by dividing the numerator and the denominator by common factors. It is always important to simplify a fraction to its lowest possible form when giving your answer.
