Surds are a way of writing irrational numbers using rational numbers and square roots.
When multiplying and dividing surds, we simply multiply or divide the values that are under the square root signs.
Example 1
Simplify √3 x √5
= √ (3 x 5)
= √15
Example 2
Simplify √21 ÷ √7
= √(21÷7)
= √3
That all looks pretty straightforward, doesn't it?
