Did you know that carrots help you to see in the dark?
Carrots are full of vitamin A which is an essential vitamin for healthy eyes, so eating a diet high in carrots could maybe help your night vision.
Here are some facts about light!
Light is a form of energy and it is the reason that we can see things.
Light sources like the Sun, lightbulbs and torches are objects that can make their own light.
Objects like mirrors, high-vis jackets or reflective strips on the road all reflect light.
Light travels in a straight line.
Reflection is the scientific word for what happens when the light hits an object and bounces off it.
If the light 'hits' or reaches our eyes, then we can see the object.
Some materials reflect light very well, like the ones mentioned above.
Have you ever wondered why a lollipop person wears a bright yellow coat? It helps to reflect car lights, so that drivers can see them and the cars will slow down!
Materials that are shiny, smooth and flat reflect well.
Like mirrors!
Some materials do not reflect light well, so the light does not bounce off them and we don't see them so well.
Materials that are dark, rough or uneven do not reflect well.
In this activity, we will be deciding whether an object is a light source or not.
We will also be thinking about reflective surfaces.
