Keys are really useful things.
No, not those sort of keys! We're talking about a series of questions that help us to sort out the name of something.
Scientists use identification keys a lot - for example when trying to find the name of a bug they've just found:
Now, this is a picture of a spider (or branching) key, but today we're going to look at a different sort of key - what we call a 'Clue' key. That's because it asks questions to lead you on to the next 'clue' to find out the name of the thing in question.
Most of this will become clearer as you work your way through the activity, but it's worth saying that when we make a key, we're focusing on the characteristics, or features, of the things in question. So, this activity will help you to build a key to sort out a variety of different sweets - so let's get stuck into it. Yummy!
