  • Question 1

To work out the following questions remember to consider the common themes that apply to the words.  You need to look out for the TWO words that do not belong in the group below.

CORRECT ANSWER
Weak
Cracked
EDDIE SAYS
Robust, strong and tough are all synonyms - they have similar meanings, whereas, weak and cracked are the opposite. Looking out for synonyms and antonyms will be very helpful in these kind of activities.
  • Question 2

Which of the words do you think does not belong below?  There are TWO to find!

CORRECT ANSWER
Fall
Crash
EDDIE SAYS
Leap, soar and spring go together describing a jumping action which leaves us with fall and crash as our odd words out.
  • Question 3

Are you getting the hang of this now?  A couple more rogue words to spot in the list below.

CORRECT ANSWER
Healthy
Well
EDDIE SAYS
Sick, infirm and ailing are synonyms for someone who is unwell. Have you ever used these words? Therefore, healthy and well are the odd words out.
  • Question 4

Which words below are sneaking into the wrong group super spotter?  Can you help us find these words?

CORRECT ANSWER
Cold
Fear
EDDIE SAYS
Some more good words for you to add to your vocabulary list super spotter! Serene, placid and tranquil are synonyms for being calm and peaceful. Therefore, cold and fear don't fit with these words and are the odd ones out.
  • Question 5

Look at the list below, can you find the link between three words, and therefore identify the TWO words that do not belong?

CORRECT ANSWER
Lose
Hide
EDDIE SAYS
How did you do? Discover, find and locate are synonyms. Therefore, lose and hide don't fit with these words and are the odd ones out.
  • Question 6

Which words are in the wrong place?  Two words below shouldn't be in the group, can you identify which ones they are?

CORRECT ANSWER
Sunshine
Meadow
EDDIE SAYS
While anger and pleasure are antonyms the link this time is that they, along with grief, describe emotions. So sunshine and meadow are the odd words out. Did you spot this? I hope this question has left you in a good mood!
  • Question 7

You will be a spotting expert in no time!  TWO more words for you to find in the group below... which ones do not belong?

CORRECT ANSWER
August
Summer
EDDIE SAYS
Did you spot that this is march the verb meaning to walk quickly? It could also be the name of the month but this does not link with any other words other than August. In this example, march, plod and trek all describe ways of walking so August and summer are the odd words out here.
  • Question 8

How are you doing super spotter?  Are you honing your spotting skills?  Here's another for you to try.  Which of the TWO words below should not be in the group?

CORRECT ANSWER
Kite
Site
EDDIE SAYS
The connecting pattern this time is not about the meaning of the words but the way in which they are spelt. If you said these words out loud you would have heard that they all rhyme. Kite and site are the odd words out because they don't follow the same spelling pattern. Did you think spelling pattern but weren't sure it could be right? Trusting your instinct is always good with these questions. Sometimes the answers are more obvious then you think.
  • Question 9

In the group below, use your super spotter skills to identify the words that should not be there.

CORRECT ANSWER
Quadrilateral
Trapezoid
EDDIE SAYS
These are all names of shapes but equilateral, isosceles and scalene are all words that are used to describe triangles. That leaves the 4 sided figures quadrilateral and trapezoid as the odd ones out.
  • Question 10

One more question to go and then you have completed the activity.  Can you finish on a high and correctly identify TWO words below that should not be part of the group?

CORRECT ANSWER
Pebbles
Sand
EDDIE SAYS
Look out the homophones - words that sound the same but with different spellings. Beech here is the name of a type of tree and so goes with oak and teak. Pebbles and sand are the odd words out.
