Worksheet Overview

QUESTION 1 of 10

In this activity you need to be a good spotter, so let’s focus!  Are you ready?

In the following set of words, two of the words do not relate to the other three. Which are the two odd words out?

Rose   Tulip    Pink   Daffodil    Grass

The odd words are pink and grass.

This is because rose, tulip and daffodil are all types of flower.

Let’s try another:

Which two words are not related to the other three here?

Lamb   Sow    Leveret    Mouse    Duckling

The two odd words are sow and mouse.

This is because the other three words are the names for baby animals.

 Pig  Piglet
 Deer  Fawn

  • Question 1

Can you help here super spotter?  Highlight the TWO words that do not belong in the list below.  Make sure you think about the type of relationships that the words have to one another.

CORRECT ANSWER
Strike Protest Hit Knock Match
EDDIE SAYS
Strike is a word that has so many meanings so maybe this selection of words got you thinking hard. It could be linked to all of the words so the key is to find the three that will go together and in this case we have strike, hit and knock. This means that protest and match don't fit with the other words.
  • Question 2

Select the TWO words that do not belong in the group below.

CORRECT ANSWER
Category
Find
EDDIE SAYS
Did you spot the similarities between three of the words? Estate, residence and villa are all places where you can reside or live. Therefore, category and find are the words that don't fit here.
  • Question 3

In the list below can you highlight the TWO words that do not belong?

CORRECT ANSWER
German French Spain Mexico Italian
EDDIE SAYS
On first glance, these all look quite similar? German, French and Italian are languages whereas Spain and Mexico are countries - so they are the odd ones out. How did you do?
  • Question 4

In the list below TWO of our words do not belong.  Can you identify them below super spotter?

CORRECT ANSWER
Boar
Stag
EDDIE SAYS
Did you think back to the introduction? It's important to consider the meaning behind these names for animals. Calf, foal and piglet fit together as names for baby animals, which leaves the two male animals; boar and stag as our words that don't fit.
  • Question 5

In the list below can you highlight the TWO words that do not belong?

CORRECT ANSWER
Wings Feather Bird Plain Feature
EDDIE SAYS
Did you spot the relationship? Wings, feather and bird link together leaving plain and feature as our words out. Note the spelling of plain meaning something flat or ordinary; not the flying kind!
  • Question 6

In the list below, can you categorise the words so that you identify the two odd words out?

CORRECT ANSWER
Two Odd Ones OutNot Odd One Out
Harp
Poetry
Essay
Literature
Piano
EDDIE SAYS
How did you get on? Harp and piano are musical instruments whereas the other three words are to do with writing. Therefore our musical instruments should not be in this group!
  • Question 7

Here's another word categorising question, you know what to do super spotter!  Identify the words that should not belong in the group below.

CORRECT ANSWER
Physician Professor Science Translator Language
EDDIE SAYS
Did you get it right? Physician, professor and translator are all names of jobs that a person could have. Therefore, science and language don't fit in here as these are not job names, they are subjects that people could work within.
  • Question 8

Can you choose TWO words below that do not make sense in this group?

CORRECT ANSWER
Tennis
Racket
EDDIE SAYS
The odd ones out here were tennis and racket. Chapter, pages and characters are all part of books. Did you work this out?
  • Question 9

TWO words below do not belong in the group.  Can you highlight them below super spotter?

CORRECT ANSWER
Hinder Spring Grow Hunt Renew
EDDIE SAYS
This one was quite a tricky one super spotter. Spring, grow and renew describe something getting bigger. Have you heard of all of these words before? If we don't make a note of new words it can hinder our progress! Hinder and hunt are the words left out.
  • Question 10

And the final question... over to you super spotter.  Help us find the odd ones out, one last time?

CORRECT ANSWER
Rude
Crimson
EDDIE SAYS
How did you do on this last question? Stigma, stamen and petal are all parts of a plant. This leaves us with rude and crimson as the words that are left out. Well done for categorising words with us!
